The union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved a new scheme, Prime Minister’s Development Initiative(PM-DevINE) for North East Region.The scheme is for the remaining four years of the 15th Financial Commission from 2022-23 to 2025-26.

The PM-DevINE scheme is a Central Sector Scheme with 100% Central funding and will be implemented by the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER).The scheme will have an outlay of Rs 6,600 crore from 2022-23 to 2-25-26.PM-DevINE will be executed by the Ministry of DoNER through North Eastern Council or Central Ministries/ agencies.While some of the projects under PM-DevINE to be approved for 2022-23 are part of the Budget announcement, projects with substantial socio-economic impact or sustainable livelihood opportunities for the general public may be considered in the future.

Hydropower projects launched by PM Modi -

53rd Capacity Building Programme in the Field Administration for the Civil Servants of Bangladesh was inaugurated at National Centre for Good Governance (NCGC) at Mussoorie.

This institute is the only institute that has trained 1,727 field-level officers of Bangladesh Civil Service such as Assistant Commissioners, SDMs, and Additional Deputy Commissioners.In 2014, the National Center for Good Governance was established by the Government of India.

The center focuses on good governance, policy reforms, training, capacity building, and working as a think tank.

The center has taken up capacity building of civil servants of several foreign countries in partnership with MEA.Till now, it has imparted training to 15 countries including Bangladesh, Kenya, Tanzania, Seychelles, Gambia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Laos, Vietnam, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

The Capacity Building Programme for developing countries’ civil servants aims to equip them with cutting-edge knowledge, skills, and tools to deliver and design effective public policy.

The participants will also be taken to see various developmental works like Delhi Metro, Smart City, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Central Information Commission, and Election Commission of India.

Ashok Leyland has joined hands with researchers at the National Centre for Combustion Research and Development (NCCRD) for the development and commercialization of a "swirl mesh lean direct injection (LDI) system" for developing hybrid electrical vehicles using turbine technology.

Ashok Leyland is a flagship company of the Hinduja group and a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer.

NCCRD is an arm of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

IIT Madras is developing an indigenously-designed micro gas turbine, whose core is a patented combustion technology called a "swirl mesh lean direct injection system".The main power train will be the electric motor, but the onboard power will be generated by the micro gas turbine.

These micro gas turbines will be developed jointly by NCCRD and Aerostrovilos Energy.

The micro gas turbine will replace the large battery systems.Ashok Leyland has signed a letter of support to develop it for heavy vehicles with NCCRD, IIT Madras.

Ashok Leyland has handed over to NCCRD a nine-meter passenger electric bus.Micro gas turbines have significant features as a technology that will extend fuel combustion beyond traditional IC engines and provide for more efficient performance and multi-fuel capability.

The Union Cabinet approved the inclusion of some castes of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh in the list of Schedules Tribes.Arjun Munda stated that the move will help them availing welfare benefits. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chairperson of the cabinet.

Regions of the five states’ tribes are included in the ST category -

The Cabinet in its latest decision granted the status of ST to the Hattee community of Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district.

Since Himachal goes to the Assembly polls later this year, thus the decision is important.

The Cabinet approved the inclusion of ’Gonds’ along with its five sub-castes in the Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh in the Scheduled Tribes list of Uttar Pradesh.

The inclusion of ’Narikoravan along with the Kurivikkaran’ community in respect to the State of Tamil Nadu was also approved by the Cabinet through the introduction of a Bill in Parliament to amend the Constitution Order,1950.

The inclusion of the ’Betta-Kuruba’ community in respect to the State of Karnataka was also approved by the Cabinet.

Chhattisgarh’s 12 caste communities were included in the Scheduled Tribes.

Process for including tribes in the ST list -

The Tribal Affairs Minister explained that the tribes are included in the ST list with the recommendation from the respective State governments.

They are then sent to the Tribal Affairs Ministry, which reviews and sends them to the Registrar General of India for approval.

The village of Rakhigarhi was part of the Indus Valley Civilisation from 2600-1900 BC.

Rashid won more than 160 votes against 99 for the incumbent Saleh.

Rashid, 78, is a British-educated engineer and was the Iraqi minister of water resources from 2003-2010.

Outgoing President Saleh reportedly walked out of the parliament building as the votes were tallied.

Rashid was born in 1944 in the northeasternSulaymaniyah region of Iraq. He graduated as a civil engineer from the University of Liverpool in 1968. He went on to complete his engineering doctorate in 1976 from the University of Manchester.

Rashid has a long history in Iraqi politics. He served as the minister of water resources from 2003 to 2010 and then as the senior adviser to the President. He can speak speaks Kurdish, Arabic and English.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has proposed dedicated satellites for supporting the country’s agriculture sector.

Key Points -

Minimum of two satellites are stipulated to guarantee adequate coverage of the entire agricultural area of the country.
