Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated India’s second Rashtriya Adarsh Veda Vidyalaya (RAVV) in Puri.

The Rashtriya Adarsh Veda Vidyalaya has been launched to spread knowledge of the Vedas among people.

Rastriya Adarsh Veda Vidyalaya which is also called the National Model Vedic School.

Maharishi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Vidya Pratisthan is the first such school in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

The curriculum of the Rashtriya Adarsh Veda Vidyalaya includes all four Vedas, Rigveda, Samaveda, Yajurveda, and Atharva.

In the Rashtriya Adarsh Veda Vidyalaya, students will also get the opportunity to opt for science, english, mathematics, social science, computer science, and agriculture.

The courses will begin in the 2022-23 academic year.

Four more such schools will come up at Badrinath in Uttrakhand, Sringeri in Karnataka, Dwarka in Gujarat, and Guwahati in Assam.

The International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), one of the largest scientific organisations of UNESCO, has recognised the Mawmluh Cave, located in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, as one of the first 100 IUGS geological heritage sites. The full list will be presented at the IUGS’s 60th-anniversary event, which will take place in Zumaia, Spain. The announcement of the 100 geological heritage sites is expected to kick start an endeavour to designate geological sites from around the world that are iconic, and recognised by all geoscience communities for their impact in understanding the Earth and its history.

Samsung Electronics Co. officially appointed Lee Jae-yong as its executive chairman, formalizing the all-encompassing leadership role he has long played at South Korea’s largest business.

The 54-year-old, Lee has been vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, the crown jewel of South Korea’s biggest business conglomerate, since 2012.

He takes over a position previously held by his father, Lee Kun-hee, who died two years ago after being incapacitated by a 2014 heart attack.

The "Emissions Gap Report 2022: The Closing Window" was released by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

India’s per capita greenhouse gas emissions were at 2.4 tCO2e (tonne carbon dioxide equivalent), which is far below the world average of 6.3 tCO2e in 2020. The US contributed the highest emissions of 14 tCO2e, followed by 13 tCO2e in Russia and 9.7 tCO2e in China.

This event will give women SHGs an opportunity to showcase their skills in the field of food making and introduce people to the food culture of our country.

Self-Help Groups -

SHGs are informal associations of people who choose to come together to find ways to improve their living conditions.

It can be defined as a self-governed, peer-controlled information group of people with similar socio-economic backgrounds and having a desire to collectively perform a common purpose.

SHG relies on the notion of “Self Help” to encourage self-employment and poverty alleviation.

On National Unity Day 2022, the Union Home Minister of India remembered Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 147th birth anniversary saying that the latter realised the dream of a strong and united India with his farsightedness.

National Unity Day is celebrated every year on 31st October to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It is also known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.

Fisheries Minister Tage Taki announced that a fish museum, the first of its kind in the Northeast, would soon be built in Arunachal Pradesh.

The fish museum will be part of India’s first-ever "Integrated Aqua Park" which has been approved by the central government.

The park will be set up at Tarin (Ziro) in the Lower Subansiri district.

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath has inaugurated North India’s first hyper-scale data centre Yotta Yotta D1.

It has been built at the cost of Rs 5,000 crores and is spread over an area of 3,00,000 square feet at the Data Centre Park in Greater Noida.

During the inauguration of North India’s first Data Centre, an MoU worth Rs 39,000 crores were also signed between the state Government and Hiranandani Group.

The Data Centre Park, which is spread over 20 acres by Hiranandani Group, will have a total of 6 data centres.

The newly inaugurated seven-story Yotta D1 is part of this episode.

The former MD of Tata Steel Jamshed J Irani who was also famously known as the "Steel Man of India" has passed away recently.

Irani was 86.

Jamshed J Irani retired from the Board of Tata Steel back in June 2011.

He had contributed tremendously to the Indian Industry, the steel business, and the TATAs for over four decades.

Jamshed J Irani began his career as a senior scientific officer in 1963 at the British Iron and Steel Research Association, Sheffield.

On his return to India in 1968, Irani joined TATA Steel as an assistant to the director (R&D).

Later in 1979, he was appointed as the General Manager and in 1985, he became the President.

Jamshed J Irani became the Managing Director of TATA Steel in 1992 and he served in the position till 2001.

Jamshed J Irani was also conferred upon Padma Bhushan- the third highest Civilian Award in 2007.

He was conferred an honorary Knighthood (KBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997.

Irani was appointed as an International Fellow at the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1996.

A total of 63 police officers having different ranks from Constable to Additional Director General of Police have been awarded the ’Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal-2022’ on Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary.

Those awarded belonged to three states (Telangana, Punjab and Maharashtra) and Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Delhi. All were part of four special operations conducted on different occasions.

Southern Command Indian Army -

Southern Command is a formation of the Indian Army which is active since 1895.

The command has seen the action during the integration of several princely states into Modern India, during the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pakistani wars.

Notably, during the Second World War Southern Command was reformed as the Southern Army in April 1942. The formation reverted to the title Southern Command in November 1945.

The headquarters of Southern Command is located in Pune, Maharashtra. It consists of two corps and two military areas.

Gujarat is the second BJP-ruled state after Uttarakhand to constitute a committee of experts on the UCC.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina conferred the prestigious "Friends of Liberation War" honour on former US Senator Edward M Kennedy posthumously in Dhaka for his contribution to the liberation of Bangladesh.

The honour was handed over to his son Edward M Ted Kennedy Junior.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recalled the great contribution of Edward Kennedy Senior with gratitude.

She said that Kennedy Senior took a bold stand against the genocide committed by Pakistan on innocent Bengali people despite the US government’s role during the 1971 liberation war.

Earlier, Kennedy Junior with his family called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday at her official residence in Dhaka.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has declared 16 child-friendly police stations and a Sampark Help Desk.

Child-friendly police stations in the state have been developed with a view to providing a child-friendly atmosphere.

The main objective of the initiative is to make minors more comfortable while lodging complaints with police without fear.

Such measures are aimed at easing the fear and mental pressure of children visiting the police stations, seeking justice.

Sampark Help Desk has been initiated with technical collaboration from UNICEF with the objective of addressing the issues of gender violence by providing psychosocial support to the victim of sexual violence who face tremendous trauma post the incident.

US has launched a demining training project in Ukraine by awarding USD 47.6 million to Tetra Tech, Inc of California.

The project also supports deploying additional clearance teams and explosive ordnance risk education teams through the local non-governmental organization Ukrainian Deminers Association.

Since 1993, the United States has invested over USD 4.7 billion for the safe clearance of landmines and explosive weapons of war as well as the securing and safe disposal of excess small arms and light weapons and munitions in more than 100 countries and territories.

89-years old Elaben Bhatt, a noted Gandhian, a leading women’s empowerment activist and a renowned founder of the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) has passed away. Elaben Bhatt was globally recognized as a woman leader who had founded many welfare institutions. SEWA (Self-Employed Women’s Association) was founded by Elaben Bhatt in 1972.

It is one of the largest cooperatives working for women with a base of over 2 million members from around 18 states in India and the neighboring nations.

Elaben was the Chairperson of Sabarmati Ashram and had recently resigned as the Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi-founded Gujarat Vidhyapith.

Seema Dhundia and Annie Abraham, two women officers of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), have been promoted to the rank of Inspector General for the first time after their induction into the force in 1987.

Inspector General Seema Dhundiya will head the Bihar sector of the Central Reserve Police Force while IG Annie Abraham will be posted as the head of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) of the CRPF.

This is also the first time RAF will be headed by a woman Inspector General.

Notably, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was the first Central Armed Police Force to induct women in combat in 1986.

Both officers have commanded an all-women Indian Police contingent at the United Nations.

Recently, the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) RISAT (Radar Imaging Satellite)-2 satellite has made an uncontrolled re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere at the predicted impact point in the Indian Ocean near Jakarta. RISAT-2 is India’s first "eye in the sky" which keep surveillance on the country’s borders as part of anti-infiltration and anti-terrorist operations.

RISAT-2 - The principal sensor of Risat-2, considered a ’spy’ satellite, was an X-band synthetic-aperture radar from Israel Aerospace Industries.

Risat-2 was built more quickly following the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks due to delay with the indigenously developed C-band for Risat-1 satellite.

The satellite, which was India’s first dedicated reconnaissance satellite, possessed day-night as well as all-weather monitoring capability.

Iran has unveiled an "upgraded version" of the Bavar-373 (Belief-373) surface-to-air missile system with a range of more than 300 km.

The system was successfully tested by launching a long-range Sayyad B4 (Hunter B4) missile.

During the test, its upgraded radar managed to detect a target at a distance of more than 450 km, and track the target at a distance of about 405 km before destroying it at a range of over 300 km.

Prior to the upgrade, the Bavar-373 missile system was capable of detecting, tracking and hitting targets at ranges of 350 km, 260 km, and 200 km respectively.

President Droupadi Murmu presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards for the year 2021 to the nursing professionals at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The awards are given to recognize the meritorious services rendered by nurses and nursing professionals to the society. It was instituted in 1973 by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.

The Supreme Court said that the 50 per cent ceiling for reservation - which was fixed in 1992 in Mandal Commission case by a nine-judge bench - is applicable only to the SC/ST and OBC categories and the 10 per cent reservation economically weaker section (EWS) was over and above the limit. The quota is available in admissions to higher educational institutions, and in initial recruitment in central government jobs.

The amendment also empowered state governments to provide reservation on the basis of economic backwardness. Under the 2019 notification, a person who was not covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs, and OBCs, and whose family had a gross annual income below Rs 8 lakh, was to be identified as EWS for the benefit of reservation.

In January this year, the government accepted the committee’s report, which said that the “threshold of Rs 8 lakh of annual family income, in the current situation, seems reasonable for determining EWS” and “may be retained”.

Odisha has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ashok Leyland for development, management and operation of three new Institutes of Driving Training and Research (IDTR).

The new institutes will be operated at Berhampur, Keonjhar and Bonai in Sundargarh district.

A heavy motor vehicle (HMV) driving training institute has been functioning in Jajpur’s Chhatia since 2013.

The Chhatia HMV Institute was jointly established by the Odisha government and Ashok Leyland to train high quality drivers to meet the demand of the transport industry and to make local youths employable by adopting skill development in HMV driving.

Now, the state government has decided to set up another three such institutes at Berhampur, Keonjhar and Bonai, particularly in the mining belt of the state where the requirement of skilled drivers are more.

The tenure of skilled driving training is 30 days as prescribed by the CMVR (Central Motor Vehicle Rule), 1989. Once the tests are cleared, the centre will also issue driving licenses to the skilled drivers.

A $3.1 billion action plan for ’Early Warnings for All’ was launched at the United Nations’ Climate Summit — COP27, with a statement of support from as many as 50 nations including India.

The plan envisaged by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) aims to reach everyone on earth with early warnings against extreme weather events.

It will cost the equivalent of just 50 cents per person per year for the next five years to reach everyone on Earth with early warnings against increasingly extreme and dangerous weather. The Executive Action Plan for the Early Warnings for All initiative calls for initial new targeted investments between 2023 and 2027 of $3.1 billion — a sum which the benefits would dwarf.

This is a small fraction (about 6 %) of the requested $50 billion in adaptation financing. It would cover disaster risk knowledge, observations and forecasting, preparedness and response, and communication of early warnings. Out of the estimated new targeted investments of $3.1 billion required over the five years, $374 million would be used to conduct risk assessment on hazards and vulnerabilities, $1.18 billion to develop hazard monitoring and early warning services.

As much as $1 billion would be used to build national and community response capabilities, and $550million for communicating risk information so it reaches all those who need it.

Justice DY Chandrachud took oath as the new Chief Justice of India.

President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Justice DY Chandrachud as the 50th Chief Justice of India at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Justice Chandrachud succeeded Justice UU Lalit, who retired.

Born in 1959, Justice Chandrachud was appointed Judge of the Supreme Court of India on the 13th of May 2016.

India’s first privately developed rocket – Vikram-S—is set for a launch in a sub-orbital mission with three payloads between November 12 and 16, Hyderabad-based space startup Skyroot Aerospace announced.

Sovereign Green Bonds Framework -

India’s first Sovereign Green Bonds Framework was formulated and according to the provisions of the framework, Green Finance Working Committee was constituted to validate the key decisions on the issuance of Sovereign Green Bonds.

An Independent and Norway-based second-party opinion (SPO) provider was appointed to evaluate India’s green bonds framework and certify the alignment of the framework with ICMA’s Green Bond Principles and International Best Practices.

After due deliberation and consideration, India’s green bonds framework was rated as ’Medium Green’ with a ’Good Governance Score’.

The Union Home Ministry has successfully completed a Mother Tongue Survey of India with field videography of 576 languages and dialects across India.

As per the annual report of the Home Ministry for 2021-22, it has been planned to set up a web archive at the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to preserve and analyze the original flavor of each indigenous mother tongue.

Recently, the Union Minister of Jal Shakti released the Dynamic Ground Water Resource Assessment Report for the entire country for the year 2022.

The total annual ground water recharge is 437.60 Billion Cubic Meters (BCM) and the annual ground water extraction is 239.16 BCM.

By comparison, an assessment in 2020 found that the annual groundwater recharge was 436 bcm and extraction 245 bcm.

Further, out of the total 7089 assessment units in the country, 1006 units have been categorized as ’Over-exploited’. The overall stage of groundwater extraction in the country is 60.08%.

The stage of ground water extraction is very high in the states of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu where it is more than 100%.

In the states of Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and UTs of Chandigarh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry, the stage of ground water extraction is between 60-100%.

In the rest of the states, the stage of ground water extraction is below 60 %.

The Centre amended Aadhaar regulations, advising card holders to update documents supporting their information at least once every 10 years from the date of enrolment to ensure the accuracy of the data.

Updating documents is not mandatory but would be encouraged.

The amendment made to the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations said users may update their documents to ensure the continued accuracy of their information in the Central Identities Data Repository.

Global Carbon Budget 2022 report was released on November 11, 2022. The report was released by the Global Carbon Project – a group of scientists who track carbon emitted by human activities.

The global carbon emissions are expected to reach 40.6 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere in 2022.

This projection is close to the highest-ever annual total of 40.9 billion tonnes of CO2 emitted in 2019.

There is no sign of carbon emission decline required for limiting the global warming to 1.5 degree Celsius.

If the current emission levels continue, there is a 50 per change that the warming of 1.5°C exceed in the next 9 years.

The Central Government notified websites and applications related to the decennial Census exercise and the National Population Register (NPR) as “protected system” or “Critical Information Infrastructure” under the IT Act. The Registrar General of India (RGI), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, issued a notification to declare certain computer assets of the Indian Government as “protected system” or “Critical Information Infrastructure” under the Information Technology Act, 2008.

The Electoral Bond Scheme has been amended by the Indian Government.

The Union Finance Ministry issued a notification amending the Electoral Bonds Scheme to allow the sale of electoral bonds for extra 15 days in the year of general elections to the Legislative Assembly of States and UTs with legislature. The notification allows the Central Government to open additional one-week window for issuing electoral bond starting from November 9, 2022.

Prior to this notification, these bonds can be bought by any individual in a period of 10 days each in the months of January, April, July and October as specified by the Central Government.

Since assembly elections to various states and union territories are held each year, the amendment allows additional 15 days of bond sales annually.

A bill was passed in the Jharkhand assembly to raise the total reservation offered to different categories to 77

per cent.

In a special session, the assembly passed an amendment to the Jharkhand Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services Act, 2001, raising the reservations for STs, SCs, EBCs, OBCs and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in government jobs from the present 60 per cent.

The bill proposes that the state will urge the Centre for changes in the Ninth Schedule of Constitution.

In the proposed reservation, local people of the SC community will get a quota of 12 per cent, STs will get 28 per cent, Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs) 15 per cent, OBCs 12 per cent, and EWS barring those from the other reserved categories 10 per cent.

At present, the STs get a 26 per cent reservation in Jharkhand, while SCs get 10 per cent quota.

The OBCs currently get a 14 per cent quota in the state, and increasing it was an electoral promise of all mainstream parties in 2019, including the ruling alliance of JMM, Congress and RJD.

The bill was passed amid protests by MLAs of the ruling BJP.

Proposals for some amendments, and a proposal to send the bill for vetting by an assembly committee were rejected.

The Nodal agencies shall post progress reports related to green energy open access to stakeholders through the portal.

The approval for Green Energy Open Access will be granted in 15 days or else it will be deemed to have been granted, subject to the fulfilment of technical requirements through the portal.

He was born on 11th November 1888 in Hyderabad, Sindh.

His original name was Jivatram Bhagwandas Kripalani but was popularly known as Acharya Kripalani. He was an independence activist, Indian politician and an Educationist.

He earned the moniker ’Acharya’ around 1922 when he was teaching at the Gujarat Vidyapith, founded by the Mahatma a couple of years before.

He was associated with Gandhi by 1917 after Gandhi had taken up the cause of indigo workers in Gujarat.

He was part of the Non-Cooperation Movement (1920-22) and the Civil Disobedience movements (started in 1930) and Quit India Movement (1942).

He became one of the founders of the Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party (KMPP) after independence leaving congress.

He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1952, 1957, 1963 and 1967 as a member of Praja Socialist Party.

He moved the first-ever No confidence motion in Lok Sabha in 1963, immediately after the India-China War (1962).

The second quarter of 2022–23 saw the Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) outperform other public sector lenders in terms of percentage loan growth.

International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the venue for Under-19 Men’s and Women’s T-20 World cup.

ICC said the 2024 Under -19 men’s T-20 World Cup will be hosted by Sri Lanka while the 2026 edition will be staged in Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Natasa Pirc Musar is a Slovenian Attorney and book author, former Information commissioner, journalist, and the former President of Slovenia’s Red Cross.

Musar is best known for her rulings and the books on freedom of information, high-profile legal cases, in which she represented Slovenia-born Melania Trump, the Social Democrats Political Party of Slovenia, and other notable clients.

The President of Slovenia is the head of the state of the Republic of Slovenia. It was established on December 23, 1991, when the National Assembly passed a new Constitution as a result of the Independence from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

India has climbed two spots to rank 8th out of 63 in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2023.

The improvement in rank is the result of India’s low emissions and the increasing use of renewable energy.

The Climate Change Performance Index report was published on November 14, 2022, by three environmental non-governmental organizations that track the climate performance of the European Union and 59 countries.

Together, it accounts for over 92 percent of the Greenhouse Gas emissions in the world.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has allowed the opening of nine special vostro accounts in two Indian Banks (UCO Bank and IndusInd Bank) for the settlement of payments in rupee for trade between India and Russia.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that the government has nominated Vivek Joshi to its director on central board.

Joshi is the secretary of the Department of Financial Services.

Joshi took charge as the Secretary of the Department of Financial Services (DFS) under the Ministry of Finance since November 1, 2022.

Between 2014-2017, he served as joint Secretary, the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, where his responsibilities included formulation of public procurement policies for the Central Government and appraisal of publicly funded projects/schemes.

He is also currently posted as Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs since January 2019.

The Government of India has appointed the former Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Virmani as a full-time member of NITI Aayog.

He served as the CEA in the Finance Ministry from 2007 to 2009.

Arvind Virmani, founder-chairman of the non-profit public policy organization Foundation for Economic Growth and Welfare, served as the Chief Economic Advisor in the Finance Ministry during Manmohan Singh led Government from 2007 to 2009.

He has served in various capacities in the Government.

Virmani was a member of the Reserve Bank of India’s Technical Advisory Committee on Monetary Policy from February 2013 to August 2016.

He had also served at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Washington DC.

Arvind Virmani, in 2009, was appointed the Executive Director, International Monetary Fund (IMF), and he served there till 2012.

During his tenure at IMF, he represented India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan.

The International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) and the Reserve Bank of India have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding for collaboration in the field of regulation and the supervision of the regulated entities in their respective jurisdiction.

Reserve Bank of India is the central bank and monetary authority of India, while the International Services Centres Authority is a unified regulator that is responsible for the development and regulation of financial products, financial services, and financial institutions.

According to an official statement released by the IFSC authority, the Memorandum of Understanding will facilitate technical cooperation and the exchange of information.

The Memorandum of Understanding between IFSCA and RBI also opens up avenues for cooperation between the two regulators.

Recently, Prime Minister of India gifted a ’Patan Patola’ scarf to the Prime Minister of Italy at the G20 summit. Patan Patola - Patola is a double ikat woven fabric, usually made from silk in Patan (North Gujarat).

Ikat is a method of tie-dyeing the warp or weft before the cloth is woven. It received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2013. The ancient art of double ikat or Patola woven in pure silk dates back to the 11th century.

This peculiar quality has its origins in an intricate and difficult technique of dyeing or knot dyeing, known as

’bandhani’, on the warp and weft separately before weaving.

The Patola fabrics bear an equal intensity of colours and design on both sides.

One of the major practitioners of this art form is the Salvi family from Patan.

The other commonly worn Patola is the Rajkot Patola, woven on a flat loom.
