The President of India Droupadi Murmu addressed the 31st Foundation Day of the National Commission for Women in Delhi on January 31st, 2023.

The theme of the program was "Sashakt Nari Sashakt Bharat" which aimed at acknowledging and celebrating the stories of women who have excelled and paved their journey to leave a mark.

The Commission is organized a two-day event to celebrate its 31st Foundation Day from 31st January 2023 to 1st February 2023.

NCW was founded in January 1992 as a statutory body under the National Commission for Women Act, of 1990.

It was established to review the constitutional and legal safeguards for women.

The Indian Railways has introduced a green revolution and will be introducing hydrogen and electric trains to the eight heritage routes in the country by December 2023.

The Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed this recently.

These hydrogen trains will include the modified version of steam engines, that will be back on tracks, equipped with vintage sirens and green steam vapours.

The new trains will run on the routes of Kalka-Shimla Railways, Nilgiri Mountain Railways, Darjeeling Hills, Kangra Railways, Bilimora Waghai, Mhow-Patalpani, Marwar-devgarh-Madriya and Matheran Hill Railways in Maharashtra.

As a pilot project, the railways is manufacturing a prototype of hydrogen fuel-based train at the Northern Railway workshop. It would be test-run on the Sonipat-Jind section in Haryana.

India will be invited as the focal country at the Madrid International Book Fair in 2025.

Spain is the theme country at the 46th International Kolkata Book Fair.

The Madrid International Book Fair is an annual event held in the Buen Retiro Park in Madrid.

In 2022, the 45th International Kolkata Book Fair recorded a footfall of 18 lakh people and Rs 20 crore worth sales of books.

According to the organisers of the book fair, there will be nine entry and exit points for easy movement of visitors.

Two big halls at the fair, having mainly English publications have been named after Michael Madhusudan Dutt and Pyaricharan Sarkar.

Madrid International Book Fair -

The Fair began in 1933.

It ceased for a few years because of the Spanish Civil War.

The Madrid Book Fair is international in scope.

Although it features mainly books from Spanish-speaking countries, the event promotes the literature of a guest country, which may speak another language.

In 2018 the guest country was Romania; in 2019 it was the Dominican Republic.

The event scheduled for 2020 and 2021 were suspended because of the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain.

The Government of Goa has launched the Vision for All School Eye Health program in partnership with OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation and Prasad Netralaya.

The program is an extension of the current Vision for All Goa eye health program.

The Vision for All Goa eye health program commenced in February 2021 and its monthly camps have screened 50,000 citizens and provided free spectacles to 16,000 people in need.

Madhvendra Singh appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gujarat Ports Infrastructure Company Limited of the Gujarat Maritime Cluster.

The Gujarat Maritime Cluster (GMC) is the first of its kind Commercial Maritime Cluster in the country aimed at creating a hub for maritime services of international standards.

Gujarat Maritime Cluster intends to host a wide array of maritime, shipping, and logistics services providers in GIFT City at Gandhinagar.

It is the first and only maritime cluster in India at present.

Besides serving as a vital platform enabling the regional maritime businesses to put forth their views and interests.

The Cluster has the unique advantage of leveraging the regulatory flexibility which is afforded by the first International Finance Services Centre (IFSC) in the country.

The Maharashtra government announced the "Jai Jai Maharashtra Majha" as the state song.

The Madhya Pradesh government announced that Islam Nagar village, situated in the Bhopal district, has been renamed as Jagdishpur.

The MP administration, in an official release, declared the changes and mentioned the change in the name with immediate effect.

India has welcomed Congo to International Solar Alliance.

The External Affairs Ministry said Ambassador of Republic of Congo, Raymond Serge Bale signed the International Solar Alliance Framework Agreement in the presence of Joint Secretary (Economic Diplomacy).

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is an action-oriented, member-driven, collaborative platform for increased deployment of solar energy technologies.

The ISA was conceived as a joint effort by India and France to mobilize efforts against climate change through deployment of solar energy solutions.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has granted Observer Status to the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

It will help provide for regular and well-defined cooperation between the Alliance and the United Nations that would benefit global energy growth and development.

Noted Kannada writer K V Tirumalesh has passed away recently.

He is primarily recognized as a poet and was honored with the Sahitya Akademi award for his innovative work Akshaya Kavya.

He wrote extensively across genres, including plays, short stories, novels, translations, and criticism.

K V Tirumalesh born in the year 1940, was an Indian poet, writer, and critic in the Kannada and English languages, and a retired professor.

K V Tirumalesh’s career as a writer began in the 1960s when he wrote the collection of poems MukhavaaDagalu (Masks 1968) in the Navya style.

Tirumalesh’s collection of poems, Akshaya Kavya (2010), as described by him is an “epic fragment”.

The Union Budget 2023-24 has allocated Rs 600 crore to the Deep Ocean Mission to explore marine biodiversity for the sustainable use of resources.

Under this mission, a manned submersible will be developed to carry three people to a depth of 6,000 metres to facilitate mineral exploration in the central Indian ocean.

In 2016, India was awarded a 15-year contract to explore an area of 75,000 km2 for mining polymetallic nodules from the Central Indian Ocean Basin at depths of 5,000-6,000 metres.
