The Civil Accounts Day was celebrated on 1st March to mark the 47th foundation day of Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS).

The Indian Civil Accounts Service was constituted in 1976, after the the maintenance of Accounts of the Union government was separated from that of Audit.

Consequently, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India was divested with this responsibility.

Two Ordinances, the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (Duties, Powers and Conditions of Service) Amendment Ordinance, 1976 and Departmentalisation of Union Accounts (Transfer of Personnel) Ordinance, 1976 were promulgated by the President on 1st of March 1976 to initiate the process of separation of accounts from audit and paving the way for departmentalised accounts. Consequently, every year on 1st of March, organization celebrates its foundation day.

The Office of the Controller General of Accounts is the principal accounting advisor to the Government of India and oversees the country’s payment and accounting system.

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp Ltd (IRCTC) and HDFC Bank, announced the launch of a co-branded travel credit card.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated 7 National Highway projects worth Rs 2444 crore, totaling 204 km in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh.

With the construction of the Churhat tunnel and bypass, the length between Rewa to Sidhi has decreased by 7 km.

The Minister informed that the movement of vehicles in the Rewa-Sidhi section will be facilitated by the construction of the tunnel, white tigers, and other wild animals, and the entire forest ecosystem will be protected.

Nitin Gadkari noted that with the construction of the Satna-Bela four-lane road, connectivity will become easier for the coal, cement, and diamond industries in the region.

On this occasion Union Minister also announced the widening of the Rewa-Sidhi Road, approving the demand to make it four-lane. He also announced a 19 km long 2-lane bypass of Rewa to 4-lane.

The Union Cabinet approved the procurement of 70 HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

The approval was given to the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The procurement would cost around Rs 6828 crore.

The aircraft will be supplied over a period of six years.

The aircraft is expected to meet the shortage of basic trainer aircraft of the IAF required for training newly inducted pilots.

The aircraft, being an indigenous solution, is configurable for upgrades to incorporate the futuristic requirements of the IAF.

The procurement will include associated equipment, training aids and simulators.

Key Points -

The HTT-40 is a turboprop aircraft designed to have good low-speed handling qualities and provide better training effectiveness.

It has a fully aerobatic tandem seat turbo trainer with an air-conditioned cockpit, modern avionics, hot re-fueling, running change over and zero-zero ejection seats.

The HTT-40 contains around 56 per cent indigenous content, which would increase to over 60 per cent through the indigenisation of major components and subsystems.

The HAL would engage Indian private industry, including MSMEs, in its supply chain.

Salhoutuonuo Kruse and Hekani Jakhalu, both from the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, made history by becoming the first women candidates to be elected in the state assembly election.

In a significant milestone, people in Nagaland have elected two women candidates after 60 years since it attained statehood.

Kruse won from Western Angami AC and Jakhalu clinched Dimapur-III constituencies.

This year, the four women candidates who contested elections are Jakhalu, Kruse, Rosy Thomson of the Congress and Kahuli Sema of the BJP.
