MoU signed between APEDA, Ministry of Commerce and Lulu Group at Dubai

 

Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA)  signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Dubai, with Lulu Hypermarket LLC for the promotion of millets in GCC countries.

In order to popularise millet products and value added products around the world during the International Year of Millet 2023, APEDA is collaborating with Lulu Group, an international retail hypermarket chain with locations in several countries, to promote Indian nutritional millets and value added products in West Asia.

This will facilitate promotional activities for millet products and allow the country to display millets and their value-added products, ready-to-eat products in international retail chains sourced from FPOs/FPCs/SC/ST/Women entrepreneurs/Start-ups/new entrepreneurs, and so on, providing these products with a platform for publicity in importing countries.

APEDA will assist manufacturers in sending various Millet Product samples to Lulu Hypermarkets.

Lulu will make it easier to showcase various millet-based products in its hypermarkets, including Ready to Eat and Ready to Serve millet products.

Bangladesh PM Hasina honours Dr. Mahendra Mishra with the International Mother Language Award

 

Indian educationist and social worker for the promotion of indigenous languages in Odisha Dr. Mahendra Kumr Mishra was conferred the International Mother Language Award by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka.

Dr. Mishra is the first India to receive this award. Dr. Mishra has worked over three decades on the language, culture  and education of the marginalised languages of Odisha.

The award instituted in 2021 by UNESCO is given in recognition of the extraordinary contribution to the preservation, revitalization and development of mother languages.

Prime Minister Hasina conferred the two national awards and two international awards to four recipients in Dhaka. Bangladeshi nationals Habibur Rahman and Ranjit Singha were given the national awards, while Mahendra Kumar Mishra and Mother Language Lovers of World Society, Vancouver, Canada were conferred with the international awards.

India’s young shooter Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil wins gold medal at ISSF Shooting World Cup

 

Young Indian shooter Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil won the gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle individual event at the ongoing ISSF Shooting World Cup at Cairo in Egypt.

The 19-year-old Rudrankksh defeated Maximilian Ulbrich from Germany in the final. Croatia’s Miran Maricic took the bronze medal.

This was Patil’s second gold at the ongoing competition, having won the yellow metal in the 10m rifle mixed team event with Narmada Raju.

Pair of Rhythm Sangwan and Varun Tomar clinched gold in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed team event, the duo of Rudrankksh Patil and Narmada Raju bagged gold in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed team event while Varun won Bronze in the 10m Air Pistol individual event.

Indian teen Tilottama Sen has won bronze medal in the women’s 10m Air Rifle at ISSF World Cup at Cairo in Egypt.

India is placed comfortably on top of the medal tally with three golds, with Hungary, Britain and Slovakia winning the other three awarded.

RBI scraps licence of MP-based Garha Co-operative Bank

 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) due to insufficient capital and earning potential revoked the licence of Madhya Pradesh’s Garha Co-operative Bank, Guna.

According to a statement from the RBI, approximately 98.4% of the depositors of the cooperative bank are eligible to receive the full value of their savings from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).

The bank is immediately forbidden from carrying out a number of activities, including accepting deposits and repaying deposits, as a result of the termination of its licence.

The bank lacks sufficient capital and earning potential, according to the RBI, which revoked the licence with effect as of Monday’s end of business hours.

Furthermore, it stated that given its current financial situation, Garha Co-operative Bank would be unable to fully reimburse its depositors.

Every depositor would be entitled to receive the deposit insurance claim amount of his or her deposits from DICGC upon liquidation, up to a maximum financial limit of Rs 5,00,000.

DICGC has already paid out Rs 12.37 crore of the total protected deposits as of December 19, 2022, depending on the consent given by the relevant bank depositors.

TERI to host World Sustainable Development Summit

 

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) will host the 22nd edition of the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) in Delhi.

The summit is being held on the theme of ‘Mainstreaming Sustainable Development and Climate Resilience for Collective Action’ from February 22 to 24.

The three-day summit will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, Guyana Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo and COP28-President designate Sultan Al Jaber.

Tata Group bags Women’s Premier League title sponsorship rights till 2027

 

According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the Tata Group has secured the title sponsorship rights for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for five seasons (BCCI).

From February 15, 2023, to July 31, 2027, or up until 30 days after the conclusion of the WPL Season 2027, the salt to software conglomerate will hold the title sponsorship rights.

The Tata Group is also the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

It bagged the rights for Rs 600 crore for two years.

Earlier, the title sponsorship rights were held by Chinese cell phone maker Vivo for two years.

The sale of media rights had fetched BCCI Rs 951 crore and the five teams were sold for Rs 4700 crore.

Subi Suresh, a 41-year-old actor and television host from Malayalam, passed dead.

Adidas to sponsor India cricket team kit in ₹350 cr deal

 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is close to agreeing to a deal with German sporting goods giant Adidas to pay Rs 350 crore as the team’s uniform sponsor.

Adidas will take the place of Killer Jeans manufacturer Kewal Kiran Clothing Ltd, which stepped in as a temporary sponsor last month after the original sponsor Mobile Premier League Sports (MPL Sports) backed out of the agreement in the middle of it.

The previous sponsor MPL Sports is an athleisure wear and sports merchandise brand from Galactus Funware Technology Pvt. Ltd.

The BCCI-MPL Sports kit deal was to last for three years from November 2020 to December 2023.

However, despite BCCI’s request to stay on till 31 March, the fantasy sports company pulled out in January, after which Kewal Kiran took over as interim sponsor.

MPL had come in after US sportswear company Nike’s term ended in 2020 after a 14-year-long association.

China approves $700 mn loan to Pakistan

 

Pakistan’s all-weather ally China has approved a loan of USD 700 million to the cash-strapped country.

The announcement came a day after Pakistan’s National Assembly unanimously passed a money bill aimed at raising tax revenues to fulfil the demands set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for seeking a USD 1.1 billion loan facility to avoid an economic meltdown.

Pakistan has a chronic balance of payments problem which was exacerbated in the last year, with the country’s forex reserves declining to critical levels.

The government has also ordered the Foreign Ministry to slash the number of missions abroad and reduce their offices, and staff and initiate other measures to cut down expenditures of the debt-ridden nation by 15 per cent.

Note: In November, Pakistan has secured a USD 13 billion bailout from China and Saudi Arabia with USD 5.7 billion in fresh loans.
