Vodafone Idea names Murthy GVAS as its interim CFO
Vodafone Idea appointed Murthy GVAS as the interim Chief Financial Officer and Key Managerial Personnel of the company, effective from February 15.
Murthy is currently designated as the executive vice-president, financial controller and head of taxation.
Murthy GVAS has 32 years of experience and expertise in finance operations, consolidation, compliance, taxation, systems integration, mergers and acquisitions.
The chartered accountant with over 32 years spent in the trade, Murthy had a six-year stint at Tata Steel before joining Vodafone.
He joined Vodafone in April 2000 making him experienced in the telecom sector for nearly 23 years.

India Women all-rounder Deepti Sharma has become the first Indian to take 100 wickets in T20I cricket history.
Overall, the 25-year-old became the ninth bowler in the women’s game to do so.
With her three wickets in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 match against West Indies, she completed 100 wickets in 89 T20Is.

Govt approves fast-track procurement for iDEX defence startups
The Defence ministry has approved a simplified and fast-track procedure for procurement from Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) affiliated start-ups and MSMEs.
Ministry of Defence’s iDEX initiative engages with industries including MSMEs and start-ups to foster innovation in the defence and aerospace sector.
The initiative also partners with incubators to provide technical support and handholding to winners of iDEX’s start-up challenges.
Ministry also announced the launch of iDEX’s Defence India Start-up Challenge DISC-9.
Defence India Startup Challenge “has been launched by Ministry in partnership with Atal Innovation Mission, aimed at supporting Startups/MSMEs/Innovators to create prototypes and/or commercialize products/solutions in the area of National Defence and Security.

RBI gives in-principle authorisation to 32 online payment aggregators
The RBI has granted in-principle authorisation for 32 existing payment aggregators to act as online payment aggregators.
Amazon (Pay) India, Google India Digital Services, Infibeam Avenues, Reliance Payment Solutions, Zomato Payments and others have been granted in-principle authorisation.
Applications are under process for an additional 18 existing payment aggregators.
Online non-bank Payment Aggregators (PAs) existing as on March 17, 2020 were required to apply to RBI by September 30, 2021 for seeking authorisation under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007 (PSS Act).
While existing PAs that have applied for authorisation within the stipulated timelines can continue business unless advised otherwise by the central bank, new PAs cannot commence operations until they are granted ‘authorisation’ under Section 7 of the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007,

A payment aggregator (also known as a merchant aggregator) is a third-party service provider that allows merchants to accept payment from customers by integrating it into their websites or apps.
In other terms, a payment aggregator (PA) bridges the gap between merchants and acquirers.

Thereafter, the PA receives payments from customers on your behalf.

Justice Sandeep Mehta took the oath as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.
The oath was administered by Governor of Assam, Prof. Jagadish Mukhi in the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhawan in Guwahati.
The post recently fell vacant on the retirement of Justice RM Chhaya.

Cabinet approves signing of MoU between India and South Africa for cooperation in Disability Sector
The Union Cabinet has approved signing of the MoU between India and South Africa for cooperation in the Disability Sector.
The bilateral Memorandum of Understanding will encourage cooperation between the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities of India and Government of South Africa through joint initiatives in the disability sector.
The specific proposals for cooperation between the two countries, as mutually agreed upon, will be taken up for implementation during the period of validity of the Memorandum of Understanding.
The Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and ageing population in both countries who especially require modern, cost-effective aids and assistive devices will be benefited from this MoU.

World Bank head leaving for ‘new challenges’
David Malpass has announced that he is quitting as the president of the World Bank to take on “new challenges” after a rift with President Joe Biden’s administration over climate change policies.
He would be leaving the international development institution in June, ten months before the end of his five-year term.
His departure comes at a time when many countries around the world are facing severe financial problems.
Appointing the head of the World Bank is a prerogative of the US president and Biden will appoint Malpass’ successor.
Malpass was close to former President Donald Trump, who appointed him to the post in 2019 after Young Kim, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, quit.
Malpass had worked in Trump’s 2016 election campaign and became the Treasury undersecretary for international affairs before going to the World Bank.
