Mohammad Shahabuddin elected President of Bangladesh
Mohammad Shahabuddin will be the next President of Bangladesh.
A retired judge, Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission and liberation war fighter Mohammad Shahabuddin was nominated for the post by the ruling Awami League. No other party or individual filed nomination for the post.
The incumbent President Abdul Hamid’s tenure is coming to an end on April 23. He served as President for two consecutive terms of five years.
The constitution of Bangladesh does not allow any person to hold the post of President beyond two terms.
Mohammad Shahabuddin was born in Pabna in 1949. He took part in the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh. Md. Shahabuddin was imprisoned for several years after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members on 15 August 1975. He is a member of the Awami League Advisory Council.

Students from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore, India, won AED 1 million by winning the gold medal at the World Government Summit in Dubai.
Niyati Totala and Neel Kalpeshkumar Parikh of The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore, were awarded the prestigious medal by Egyptian President Abel Fattah Al-Sisi.
These students were the creators of the ‘Blockbill’ app.Blockbill is a blockchain-based receipt generation app that generates digital receipts for all of its users’ transactions.
This app solves multiple problems, which aids the transition away from the production of thermal papers for printing receipts. Thermal papers which are ubiquitous and found in most retail locations cannot be recycled because of the chemicals that are used to create it. Blockbill is conceptualised to solve this issue.
The “M-Gov Award” and the “GovTech Award” are annual awards organized by the UAE government as part of the World Government Summit. England’s WC-winning captain Morgan retires from all forms of cricket aged 36
England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket aged 36.
The 36-year-old, who was born in Dublin, stepped down from the international game in June.
Under Morgan’s guidance, England won the World Cup in 2019 and reached the top of the one-day and Twenty20 rankings.
Morgan’s last appearance came for Paarl Royals in the recently-concluded SA20 League, where he scored 128 runs.
Morgan has scored nearly 24,000 runs in a professional cricket career spanning 20 years, playing 855 matches, also captained London Spirit in The Hundred as well as Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

Appasaheb Dharmadhikari awarded with Maharashtra Bhushan award
The state government of Maharashtra has announced that renowned social worker, preacher and reformer Dattatreya alias Appasaheb Dharmadikari will be honoured with Maharashtra Bhushan award for the year 2022.
The Maharashtra Bhushan award comprises a medal, a citation and Rs 25 lakh, which will be conferred to Appasaheb at a function later in the year.
Appasaheb was honoured with Padmashri in 2017.

India To Get Its First National Metro Rail Knowledge Centre In Delhi

India’s first electric AC double-decker bus inaugurated in Mumbai
India’s first air-conditioned double-decker electric bus was inducted into the fleet of BEST the civic transport public body in Mumbai.
The wet-leased e-bus will be registered at the Regional Transport Office before it hits the road for the public.
This air-conditioned double-decker electric bus is likely to ply on the routes in suburbs where conventional double-decker buses that run on diesel are currently operated.
Mumbai’s iconic double-decker bus has been introduced in public service in a new electric double-decker form.
The new e-bus has two doors and an equal number of staircases for accessing the upper decks. The new buses will be equipped with facilities like digital ticketing, CCTV cameras, live tracking, digital display, and a panic button for emergencies, among others.
According to BEST, the double-decker bus passenger carrying capacity is almost double compared to their single-decker counterparts.
The new buses have a seating capacity of 65 and including standing passengers, they can carry 90 to 100 passengers.
The prototype air-conditioned e-bus of the country was unveiled on August 17, 2022, by Union minister Nitin Gadakari in Mumbai.

First-Ever Woman Astronaut Rayyana Barnawi from Saudi Arabia to go on Space Mission in 2023
The first-ever woman astronaut of Saudi Arabia will go to space this year, Saudi woman astronaut Rayyana Barnawi will join fellow Saudi Ali Al-Qarni on a 10-day mission to the International Space Station (ISS) this year.
Barnawi and Al-Qarni will fly to the ISS aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft as part of a mission by the private space company Axiom Space.
Axiom Space carried out its first private astronaut mission to the ISS in April 2022 under which four private astronauts spent 17 days in orbit.

Country’s first waste-to-hydrogen plant to be set up in Pune
The country’s first solid waste-to-hydrogen plant will be set up at Hadapsar Industrial Estate in Pune at a cost of over Rs 430 crore.
The plant will be set up by sustainability solutions provider TheGreenBillions Ltd (TGBL), who has entered into a 30-year-long agreement with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
It will treat 350 tonnes of solid garbage every day by next year.
Plan is to produce 10 tonnes of hydrogen daily from 350 tonnes of solid waste. This is the first attempt in India to extract hydrogen from waste,” he added.
The company will invest Rs 350 crore in setting up the plant and an additional Rs 82 crore will be spent to construct the storage facility and logistics support, Kanakia said.
The PMC will Rs 347 per tonne to TGBL as tipping fee to treat the waste.
The first 10 tonne reactor will be installed by November 2023 and the target to complete the entire plant is November 2024.

January retail inflation rises to 6.52%, highest since October 2022
India’s consumer inflation hit a three-month high in January at 6.5%, reversing its downtrend because of higher food prices. The year-on-year increase in the consumer price index (CPI) breached the central bank’s upper tolerance limit of 6%, after keeping within targeted range in November and December, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
Food inflation –which accounts for 40% of the CPI basket – rose to 5.94% year on year in January 2023 from 4.19% in the previous month, the data show. While the spike in retail inflation was mainly caused by a surge in food prices, non-food sector prices also remained high.
Core inflation, which excludes food and fuel prices, stood at 6.3% in January. In a bid to rein in inflation, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had raised its policy interest rates by a total of 250 basis points since May 2022. The next monetary policy meeting is scheduled on 3-6 April 2023.

Aniket Talati is the director of ICAI Accounting Research Foundation (ICAI ARF), Indian Institute of Insolvency Professionals of ICAI (IIIPI) and Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) India and the member of various other committees, boards and directorates of ICAI. He is also the technical advisor to the ICAI’s nominee on the PAIB advisory group of IFAC and technical advisor to the IFAC board member and is a board member of SAFA (South Asian Federation of Accountants).
